3M's
OH & ES Division Adds New Products to Positive Pressure Respirator
Line
London, Ontario
.3M's
Occupational Health and Environmental Safety division recently
introduced a new line of shrouds, called the H-Series Hoods,
to the Positive Pressure Respirator line. These new products
offer the widest range of headgear available in the industry.
The NIOSH-approved, lightweight hoods are available
in four different fabrics with several new design features
that will optimize wearer comfort and versatility. The fabric
of the H-Series 800 Hoods meets the requirements of NFPA 701
and Can/CGSb4.2 Vertical Flammability Standards. The unique,
waterfall airflow reduces fogging of the lens and provides
a steady stream of air into the worker's breathing zone. Air
enters the hood via a breathing tube attached to the hood.
An airflow plenum channels the air to the front of the hood
which escapes out the bottom of the hood or, for added comfort,
is channeled into the worker's clothing or protective suit.
There are two shroud options as well that will
increase a worker's comfort. The collar shroud, along with
the positive pressure airflow, helps prevent contaminated
air from entering the hood. The comfortable, loose fitting
collar makes the hood easy to put on and take off. The outer
shroud protects from overspray. If a worker requires greater
splash/overspray protection, they should use the double-shroud
design. The inner shroud is tucked into a shirt or protective
coverall, channeling the excess air over the body, providing
additional comfort.
3M's H-Series Hoods offer a unique U-shaped
face shield that provides excellent peripheral and downward
vision. It also eliminates the "closed-in" feeling associated
with other respirators. The hoods also feature a peel-off
face shield cover that protects the lens from scratches and
overspray, prolonging the hood's life and increasing worker
productivity.
The Hoods offer two suspension options - cap
and hardhat suspension. The cap suspension with bridged outer
support securely snaps to the face shield, so the hood moves
when the wearer's head moves. The 3M hardhat option meets
ANSI standard Z89.1 - 1997 for Type 1, Class G, E and C requirements.
Face shields are easily secured to either of these suspensions
because snaps are found on every face shield.
There are four different series of hoods in
the H-Series. This includes the H-400, the H-600, the H-800
and the H-900. For further clarification on which hood meets
your worker's needs, please call 1-800-265-1840 ext. 6137
