3M Advanced Meeting Solutions Adds V.35 and Microsoft NetMeeting to Growing Family of Videoconferencing Solutions

London, Ontario….3M Visual Systems Division today announced it has significantly strengthened its family of videoconferencing products with the addition of V.35 capabilities. The 3M Videoconferencing Systems VCS3100 V.35 let customers with non-ISDN networks such as T1/E1, satellite, Frame Relay and switched 56, seamlessly connect to private communications networks. This is a significant enhancement for those who demand the quality of high-speed, high-bandwidth video connections, but do not have access to ISDN connections, as well as those looking to use excess bandwidth on their existing private communications networks. In addition, the 3M VCS3100 V.35 connects at speeds up to 768 Kbps delivering exceptional video performance and clear, lifelike audio. V.35 Benefits

The 3M VCS3100 V.35 ships pre-loaded with data communications equipment (DCE) protocols from leading vendors, saving users the difficult and time-consuming task of manually configuring their systems. Unlike some competitive videoconferencing systems, the 3M VCS3100 V.35 supports dialed calls. Non-dialed systems required the user to physically place calls directly from the DCE unit - another difficult, time consuming task that takes valuable time away from meetings. 3M VCS3100 V.35 users simply place video calls from the hand-held remote control - much like dialing a cordless phone.

Release 3.0

In addition to the 3M VCS3100 V.35, Release 3.0 is now shipping on all 3M Videoconferencing Systems and also available as a free upgrade for current customers. With Release 3.0, 3M VCS3000 Series products now support Microsoft NetMeeting. Bringing the full-power of Microsoft NetMeeting to the 3M VCS3000 family continues to establish these systems as the complete solution for remote meetings and collaborative sessions. Release 3.0 also integrates sophisticated features such as automatic backlight compensation that instantly adjusts image brightness in meeting rooms with poor lighting conditions. For added security, far end camera control can now be disabled to prevent unwanted callers from scanning an office or meeting room for sensitive information.

To ease the upgrade process, SoftUpdate - a new software upgrade utility for all 3M VCS3000 Series products - makes systems upgrades quick and easy. As with all 3M VCS3000 Systems series, videoconferencing system managers can upgrade all the systems on their network from one location with 3M's unique and easy-to-use remote management tools.

"This product announcement marks an important milestone for the 3M Advanced Meeting Solutions program in the growing videoconferencing market," said Lindsey Goudge, market manager for 3M Advanced Meeting Solutions. "We've entered a new era in business where professionals will not tolerate complicated products that stand in the way of team and project productivity. We're making it easy for customers to choose 3M solutions because they are easy to use."
