A
Bright Idea for Safety!
Tim
Hortons and 3M Team Up to Make People Visible this Halloween
London, Ontario
.This
Halloween, as trick or treaters prepare to step out into North
America's city streets and rural roads, many will pause to
affix one final - and perhaps lifesaving - piece of masquerade:
a Tim Hortons Reflective band featuring Scotchlite Reflective
Material.
Tim Hortons and 3M Canada have teamed up this
Halloween season to promote safety amongst North American
trick or treaters. Participating Tim Hortons locations will
be distributing one million reflective bands free of charge
to Canadian and American children two weeks prior to Halloween.
Every year, Tim Hortons promotes the importance
of safety to their customers during the Halloween season.
This year, Tim Hortons contacted 3M to develop a product that
would improve the visibility of trick or treaters. Says Marcia
Stewart, marketing manager of the TDL Group Ltd., "We wanted
to provide kids with something that was fun, would promote
safety and could be used again and again. The reflective bands
meet these criteria."
Each reflective band has the Tim Hortons logo
inscribed and contains one, one quarter inch strip of Scotchlite
Reflective Material that goes around the entire circumference
of the band. Therefore, if a child is wearing a band around
his/her arm or leg, they will be visible from every angle.
Best of all, the bands come in a funky orange colour that
children will love to wear. They are washable and reusable.
"The bands made with Scotchlite Reflective Material
will dramatically improve the visibility of a child at night
by passing motorists," explains Brenda Ackerman, sales and
marketing manager for 3M Personal Safety Products. "Scotchlite
Reflective Material returns light back to the light source,
reflecting up to 1500 times more light than white fabric when
viewed under nighttime driving conditions."
The Canada Safety Council (CSC) has endorsed
the reflective band program. Says CSC President Emile Therien,
"Just before Halloween, the clocks go back. That means children
are walking in the dusk and after dark. Many collisions involving
child pedestrians occur between 4:00pm and 8:00pm., when visibility
is a major factor. We think it's wonderful that Tim Hortons
and 3M are providing reflective bands, and hope children will
continue to wear them through the winter."
As mentioned earlier, the Tim Hortons reflective
bands featuring 3M Scotchlite Reflective Material will be
available two weeks before Halloween at participating Tim
Hortons locations.
