Volunteer Stars Shining Brightly at
Children’s Museum, thanks to 3M Canada
London, ON –
The London
Regional Children’s Museum’s annual volunteer
appreciation event had more to celebrate today, with the announcement of
multi-year funding from 3M Canada.
“3M is committed to making a positive contribution to the
communities in which we operate, and to Canadian society as a whole,”
says Ken Clark, 3M’s Vice President, Sales and Marketing. “We
have been a proud partner of the Children’s Museum for more than 13
years and are pleased to support the museum with today’s announcement
of funding for the 3M Shining Stars Volunteer Program”.
“3M’s gift of $30,000, to the ‘shining stars’
program, will help the Children’s Museum with volunteer recruitment,
screening and training,” says executive director Tammy Adkin.
“Our volunteers make such a huge contribution, whether they are
assisting with birthday parties, helping with cleaning, or hosting our
visitors. The commitment from 3M will enable us to provide better support
for our volunteers and in turn they’ll provide excellent experiences
for our visitors.”
“We’ve been very pleased to count many 3M employees and
retirees among our volunteers,” Adkin adds. “3M scientists and
executives have taught children’s programs, served on our board of
directors and helped in building our Science in Your World
Gallery.”
Today’s volunteer appreciation event also celebrates three
outstanding volunteers who have made an exceptional contribution at the
Children’s Museum, by honouring them with a ‘shining
star’ award.
Michelle Zuber, one of our shining star recipients, has contributed over
100 volunteer hours to the Children’s Museum since May 2006. Her
dedication, enthusiasm and initiative have made her shine as a gallery
host.
Paul Layland has demonstrated great versatility and incredible growth
since he started volunteering at the Children’s Museum just two
months ago. His contributions in exhibit maintenance, hosting our visitors,
and working with our day campers have made him a shining star.
Ariel Taylor’s enthusiasm for children and dedication to her
volunteering is obvious. Since February 2006, she has been a shining star
with her gallery hosting and helping out at our birthday parties.
The London Regional Children’s Museum provides a playful learning
environment that engages children through hands-on exhibits and interactive
experiences.
