3M to invest $4 million to expand and
upgrade production capabilities at its Morden Plant
Morden, MB –
3M today announced plans to invest $4 million to expand production
capabilities at its Morden manufacturing operations. The new expansion will
increase 3M’s ability to support the growing oil and gas industry by
enhancing the production capabilities for 3M’s Scotchkote™
product.
Slated to be completed mid 2007, the expansion is expected to create 12
new jobs for operators, engineers and maintenance personnel at the
plant.
"Today's announcement demonstrates our commitment to satisfying the
needs of our customers here in Canada and supports our goal of continued
international growth," declared Jim Brock, Executive Director Manufacturing
and Engineering for 3M Canada. 3M’s Morden plant, which officially
opened in 1983, produces medical electrodes and Scotchkote products for
North American and Global markets.
Scotchkote is a corrosion protection coating for gas pipelines. With the
ongoing demand for oil, pipelines around the world are being replaced and
improved. The 3M product protects the exterior of the pipeline from
corrosion which significantly extends the life of the pipeline.
“3M continues to be a strong asset for our community and
we’re thrilled with their support in Southern Manitoba. Not only will
the enhanced facility create additional job opportunities; the expansion
will also have a positive impact on the local economy,” stated Peter
George Dyck, MLA Pembina.
Through both capital and community investments, 3M remains a committed
corporate citizen in Manitoba, employing close to 200 people across the
province. The Morden facility is 3M Canada’s fourth largest
manufacturing facility and is renowned for its world class operations.
