3M Canada Announces Employee Volunteer Award
London, ON –
3M Canada announced an employee Volunteer Awards Program to annually
recognize 3M employees for their outstanding volunteer efforts.
“Our goal, as a corporation, is to encourage more employees to
take initiative and to make this world a better place,” said Ian
Hardgrove, 3M Canada President.
The six volunteer award winners will be selected through a random draw
and announced during the 2007 National Volunteer Week. In addition to a
commemorative award, winners will also receive a $1000.00 cash donation to
the charity of their choice.
The introduction of the awards program included a volunteer testimonial
by Jill Allen, a 3M employee and nurse, who traveled to Pakistan as part of
a relief team to assist people injured during the 2005 earthquake.
Allen’s compelling story touched the hearts of everyone in attendance
and conveyed a simple but meaningful message: “Anyone can volunteer.
You just have to have a willing spirit.”
“There is nothing that feels as good as giving back to your
community. Volunteers want to help other people and do not look for
personal recognition,” stated Sue Romyn, 3M Manager of Public
Relations, who spear-headed the 3M Volunteer Awards Program. “As a
company, we want to celebrate our employees by supporting their charity of
choice.”
3M Canada encouraged employees to volunteer by hosting its first annual
volunteer fair, in April and by introducing a new internal and external
community web site to highlight 3M’s corporate philanthropy.
