3M Electrifies Cord And Wire Organization Capabilities With
New Line Of Self-Stick Products With Command Adhesive
London, ON - 3M has introduced a line of self-stick cord clips and a cord bundler with 3M
Command Adhesive to organize electrical cords and cables. The new line gives an unobtrusive, easy solution to an every day
challenge. "We have expanded the use of revolutionary stretch-release adhesive technology used in the family of mounting products to
tame the growing number of electrical cords and wires in media rooms, home and commercial offices, kitchens - anywhere these
essential electrical lifelines accumulate," said Penny Wise, marketing operations manager for 3M Command Adhesive
Products. "We estimate that over 50 million surge protectors were sold in 2000 and there were a reported 46+ million computers in
North American households in 2001," noted Wise. "Add DVD players, other audio and video equipment, kitchen and laundry room
appliances and lamps and the potential tangle of cords is monumental and unattractive."
The cord clips hold everything from delicate wire filaments to hefty cables or even multiple cords on
baseboards, walls, desks and other furniture. "According to a 3M survey of 1,000 adults, 27 percent said the most important
reasons to use such products in their homes are for: organizing and untangling; making an area neater; preventing accidental
tripping or pulling on cords; and keeping the work-space free of wires," said Wise.
Cord clips come in three sizes. Small; for single phone or lamp cords, medium; to hold an antenna,
coaxial cable or surge protector cords. The large cord clip is designed to accommodate bulky or multiple wires and cords. A strap
enclosure latches over wires to keep them in place.
The cord bundler, which has a flexible rubber strap that folds up to lock into an oval plate that attaches to
the wall, creates a loop to hold multiple wires or hang ornamental wreaths.
All cord management products are easily moved and used again and again with 3M Command Adhesive
replacement strips. They work on most flat surfaces such as stained or varnished wood; glass; tile; painted cinder block; wallboard
and plaster.
"Properly removed, these products with 3M Command Adhesive leave no holes, marks or sticky residue,"
said Wise. "Recommended removal requires stretching the tab at least 6 inches, flat against the surface. Used on a baseboard for
example, the cord clip tab stretches to the right or to the left, rather than straight down, as with the other 3M mounting
products," she advised.
