New Easy-to-Use Indicator Adds Assurance to Liquid Sterilization Process

London, Ontario… Comply™ Liquid Peracetic Acid Chemical Indicator from 3M (#1249) for monitoring the STERIS SYSTEM 1® processor is a larger, easy-to-read indicator with a distinct color change. This helps to ensure medical instruments have been exposed to the appropriate concentration of sterilant.

“We are pleased to offer this new indicator for monitoring the sterilization of surgical and diagnostic equipment,” said Catherine Lathem, marketing manager, 3M Medical Markets. “Bringing increased confidence to routine processes will help health care professionals devote more of their time and attention to patient care.”

With each use of the STERIS SYSTEM 1® processor, a Comply™ 1249 chemical indicator is clipped in place, and then exposed to the sterilization process. The red (unprocessed) indicator changes to an easily identifiable lime green when exposed to the appropriate concentration of peracetic acid. Insufficient exposure to peracetic acid results in a blue color at the centre of the indicator.

Results from Comply™ 1249 indicators may be read for up to 30 minutes after processing. If the Comply™ 1249 indicator presents a distinct blue centre after processing, the cause of sterilization failure should be investigated and the contents of the processor load should be reprocessed.
