More New Zealanders are complaining of injuries associated with the constant use of computers and keyboard equipment.

The Occupational Safety and Health Service (OSH) says more than 1, 500 people in the last five years have been seriously affected by injuries to their muscles, joints or tendons.

"Our bodies are not designed to perform the same task over and over again without adverse effects," says 3M's marketing specialist Carlene Creighton.

"Correctly designed computer equipment is really important in helping computer users battle pain associated with overuse."

To help New Zealanders work in comfort, 3M New Zealand has recently launched the 3M Renaissance Mouse. Resembling a computer joystick, the 3M Renaissance Mouse has a vertical grip, and is designed to keep the arm in a natural handshake position.

The vertical grip helps remove pressure from the wrists, median nerve and shoulder. It is clinically proven to relieve strain in two ways - by using the arm's larger muscles and by clicking with the thumb instead of the finger.

The mouse comes in two versions:

  • Designed for PCs

  • Designed for Mac computers
