3. Swimming pool

The school could save energy in a number of ways:

  • Put an insulating cover on the swimming pool when it's not being used. This would be cheap and would start saving energy instantly although there maybe safety issues with a cover.
  • Putting an insulated building round the pool could reduce energy loss from the pool area and give spectators somewhere warm and dry to stand, although it would cost money and energy to build.
  • Turning down the temperature of the water would save energy
    on heating.
  • Having less water in the pool would mean there is less water to heat.
  • Only using the pool in the warmer summer months would also save heating it in the cold winter.
  • Alternative methods of heating the water, such as using solar panels could also be considered.
