3. Swimming pool

Open air swimming pool Open air swimming pools that are heated using
mains electricity can use as much as 1000kWh
every day.

They use more energy if they are:

  • bigger.
  • have warmer water.
  • the outside air is cooler.

Cleaning pools also uses energy. A single pool can put up to 160 tonnes of carbon dioxide gas
(the volume of nearly 7million double-decker buses)
into the atmosphere each year. Carbon dioxide
harms the environment.

Can this school teach swimming, but cause
less damage to the environment?
