Which materials are good at conduction?

Metals make good conductors as they have some small particles (free electrons) that can move along the rod easily and carry energy quickly. Woods and plastics don't have these free electrons so are worse at conduction. You can tell metal is a good conductor of heat because it often feels cold to touch as it conducts heat away from your hand.
