Solids, liquids and gases are all made from particles.

The particles in a solid are in fixed positions close together.

The particles in a liquid are still close together but they can move amongst themselves and are not fixed in position so liquids do not have a shape.

The particles in a gas are far apart and can move quickly in any direction. They fill the container they are in.
