Renewable vs.

Renewable vs. non-renewable

Coal hillsThe sources of fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas and nuclear fuels) will eventually run out and it will take millions of years to replace them. These energy resources are therefore called non-renewable, because once they have run out they can't be renewed.

Before we run out of non-renewable fuel, we need to find other ways to meet our demand for electricity. There are a variety of alternative options but none yet offer the convenience of fossil fuels or the concentrated supply of energy.

Renewable energy resources will not run out but there is no renewable energy resource that can be used in the same space-concentrated way as fossil fuels. Each renewable resource has uses but power output is limited so more renewable resources are needed to meet our desire for electricity.
