Ground source heat pumps

The length of the ground loop depends on the size of the building to be heated. The ground loop can be laid in horizontal trenches or a vertical borehole. Horizontal trenches (around 2m deep) are usually cheaper to dig than vertical loops. Using a slinky style of pipe collects more energy in a shorter length of trench.

Do ground source heat pumps provide heat energy for nothing?
