7. Cooling tower

Cooling towers are where the steam that turned the turbines is condensed back into water. A lot of heat energy can be lost from here. Power stations are being adapted so that the waste steam is used to heat the incoming water before being cooled in towers.
This saves energy as less heat is then needed to turn the pre-heated water into steam in the boiler.
