2. Glass between inside and outside

With glass around the outside of the building, the inside can get very hot on sunny days. Air-conditioning is used to keep the inside of the building cool but air-conditioning uses electricity. To reduce the need for air-conditioning and save energy, a reflective film has been put on the windows. It contains a thin film of crystals that are shaped so that they reflect back the longer wavelength infrared heat waves but still allow most of the visible light to pass through. So the office gets lots of daylight but not a lot of heat.
