Think about crisps

A lot of energy went into those crisps but crisps are not unique. A lot of the food we buy has been processed using energy. Some of it will have travelled a long way, such as papayas from Brazil or lamb from New Zealand.

Depending on the food product bought, as little as 10% of the cost of food might go to the farmer. The rest of the cost pays for the energy and time involved in packaging, processing, preservation, transportation and sometimes advertising.
