carbon footprint

What can you do to reduce your carbon footprint?

Consider your transport options

Making the same journey by different methods of transport puts different amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. For example, in 2009, using the carbon calculator on (information website from Department for Transport) the following journeys were calculated assuming one person and no luggage:

Large car Plane Economy car Train Coach
79.7kg 47.7kg 39.5kg 18.5kg 9.0kg
Large car Plane Economy car Train Coach

If the large car above had five passengers going to Cork, the total CO2 emission for the car journey would be split between the five travellers. This would give them an individual carbon footprint for the journey that is less than taking the plane, or even the train.
