Fuel for the journey

Cars run on the non-renewable fossil fuel, oil. Petrol and diesel are both extracted from oil. Oil was made millions of years ago from sea creatures that fell to the bottom of the oceans when they died and were buried by layers of rock. After millions of years of heat and pressure, oil was formed. We are fast using up all the oil that was formed millions of years ago and it will run out.

Oil companies are already extracting oil from harder and harder to reach places. As they have to spend more money and time getting to the oil, it becomes more expensive for consumers to buy. Also as oil is becoming more rare and limited in supply, the price is rising. Look at the average price for a barrel of Europe Brent crude oil in the years given in this diagram.
