A story of invention

Thomas buys one of Maggie's quadboards, likes it but thinks it would be better if he could steer it. He investigates lots of different steering mechanisms and experiments to find the one that works for his quadboard.

He patents his steerable quadboard, but because he has used a lot of previous patents in the design of his steering mechanism, he has to list these on his patent form. He decides that it would be expensive to manufacture his steerable quadboard because of all the patent agreements he would have to make with other patent owners. He calculates that people probably wouldn't pay much money for a quadboard so he never develops his patented idea.
