3M™ Laser Markable Film Label Stock

Different production lines, a great variety of products and materials as well as the growing need for customer-focused manufacturing have led to the present demand for the most diverse identification solutions. Variable information printing systems and materials have therefore become indispensable to ensuring the flexible and cost-efficient production of such product labels. 3M manufactures special two-layer films that can be processed on laser printing systems.

Once etched by laser, the two-layer film delivers an absolutely faithful and high-contrast reproduction of graphics and text, which is particularly important for bar-code applications. The crystal-clear printing quality produced by etching, the film's resistance against various stress factors and its numerous application possibilities are further assets of 3M™ Laser Markable Film Label Stock.

To begin with, labels are designed on a CAD system that contains all the required fixed data such as serial numbers. This data is then stored on the CPU for subsequent retrieval along the process line where variable information such as manufacturing date and serial numbers follow. The programmed laser then marks the desired labels within seconds and at the same time cuts every required label format.

This process leads to a number of process-flow advantages:
- no more stock-keeping of pre-manufactured labels,
- time and cost savings through simultaneous etching and cutting,
- demand-oriented production through in-line integration,
- smooth production process with customized information and
- optimized handling of label variety.
