Red Green becomes Ambassador of Scotch® Duct Tape
London, Ontario - 3M
Canada and S & S Productions Inc. have begun a three year
agreement that will see Red Green take on the role as the
"Ambassador of Scotch® Duct Tape".
Red Green is the lovable handyman character played by Steve Smith each week on The Red Green Show produced by S & S Productions Inc. The character, Red Green hosts a segment on his program entitled, "Handyman Corner", where he dispenses advice on how to repair, build or fasten just about any object. Duct tape, which he refers to as "the handyman's secret weapon" always factors heavily in these projects. Red believes, "Anything is possible with enough duct tape". From here on in, he will be using only the finest - Scotch® Duct Tape.
To support 3M's duct tape business, 3M Canada has made a multi-million dollar investment in purchasing and installing equipment to make duct tape for the North American and eventually global market. Tony Marranca, 3M Canada's Vice President of Manufacturing and Engineering, says the installation of the new duct tape production line in London is a significant growth opportunity for 3M Canada. "The addition of a high volume, growth market product like duct tape to our London operations is a reflection of our ability to deliver both quality and service to our global customers," Marranca says.
As part of the agreement with 3M, Steve Smith, in the guise of Red Green, will make a number of public appearances on behalf of 3M Canada, including an appearance at the opening of the new Duct Tape production line.
The Red Green Show is broadcast on the CBC in Canada and on PBS in the United States. The Comedy Network airs reruns of the show, now in its tenth season. A new project for Red Green is a feature film, entitled, "Red Green's Duct Tape Forever" which is set to begin filming this summer and will feature the odd assortment of characters who frequent the Possum Lodge, including Red's techno-geek nephew, Harold (played by Trader's Patrick McKenna).
S & S Productions Inc. is an independent, privately held (The Smiths) production company specializing in the creation and production of entertaining television series (The Red Green Show, History Bites, Men on Women, The Gardener's Journal, MoneySense Television).
