Ready for action in just 60 minutes |
In vehicles fitted with airbags, windscreens and their bonding must be capable of withstanding extreme loads. The reason is that in the event of an accident the airbags are braced against the windscreen. The 3M Rapid Two-Part windscreen adhesive offers this high bonding strength - and only requires one hour's curing time.
|
After one hour's curing at 20.6°C, a crash test carried out to standard FMVSS 208/212 and involving a collision with a solid concrete wall at an impact speed of 49.7 km/h with a double airbag and two dummies not wearing seat belts was successfully passed. Even in a simulated vehicle roll in accordance with US standard FMVSS 216, the windscreen bond withstood the extreme loads. The new 2-component system can quickly be applied using commercially available compressed-air guns or manually-operated guns - without preheating. Curing depends not on the relative humidity but on the temperature. Thanks to 3M's unique delaying technology, curing only begins about 15 minutes after the two components have been mixed together. The adhesive bead does not collapse, soiling is easily cleaned away, the waste quantity is reduced and is classified as non-hazardous waste.
