Vienna's highest wave lights up red |
The Donauturm (Danube Tower), Vienna's highest landmark, now has a new look, with the Bank Austria red wave logo revolving at a head-spinning height of 230 metres. This oversized Bank Austria logo was made using 3M materials. 3M delivers highest quality for the highest demands.

An advertising logo of this size (10 x 3 x 6.73 m) and at this height places particularly high demands on the material and workmanship. Vienna's new record-breaking symbol must not only withstand extreme temperatures, it must also brave the wind and rain. The 3M materials used were Panaflex 945, Translucent 3630 and protective film type 3640. The translucent 3M Panaflex 945 substrate is dimensionally stable and flexible, crack-resistant and also resistant to soiling as a result of its special coating. The "giant wave" was made by Frilla Werbeleuchten of Untertullnerbach in Lower Austria. In doing so, the Frilla team achieved not only an engineering but also a logistical tour de force. Once the Bank Austria logo had been fitted with 58 m2 of 3M's flexible substrate (tear strength: 300 kg/m2) and 140 Philips fluorescent tubes (connected load 6 kW), the oversized wave with its total weight of 17,600 kg had to be manoeuvred into position with millimetre accuracy using a helicopter, for which good weather conditions were vital. Finally, fitters from Frilla and from VOEST-ALPINE MCE assembled the logo piece by piece in a daredevil action. The Bank Austria wave on Vienna's Danube Tower is the highest revolving illuminated advertising logo in the world. The application for inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records has already been submitted.
