3M Austria was recently awarded the ÖKOPROFIT Prize by the Federal state of Lower Austria and the Chamber of Commerce for its achievements in environmental protection in the workplace.
ÖKOPROFIT-NÖ (Ecological Project for Integrated Environmental Technology) is a project set up by the Lower Austrian Federal state government to initiate waste and emission reductions in company´s located in Lower Austria. The aims were to draw up a comprehensive waste management concept, to specify waste avoidance measures and to develop an environmental programme. "Taking part in ÖKOPROFIT-NÖ enabled us to examine our Austrian operations critically in collaboration with external consultants," explained Dr. Horst Höller, Managing Director of 3M Austria.
A raft of measures in the field of waste and energy management resulted in substantial savings. For example, the quantity of waste was reduced by 23,300 kg (approx. 20%), gas consumption by 34,000 m3 (34%) and electricity consumption by 147,600 kWh (18%) per year, as Irene Fromwald, head of 3M Austria's Environmental Department, was pleased to announce.
