To speed up help in the case of a fire, the Swiss Railways (SBB) have provided 17 train stations with a new generation of fire-fighting trains. Since the trains have a limited capacity for storage, they need the most efficient foam which is also freeze-protected. Therefore, SBB has chosen 3M™ Light Water™ ATC foam (FC-602): It provides fast extinguishment even at low application rates or where proportioning is inaccurate, and it is freeze-protected. In addition, Light Water ATC foam is very versatile because it can be used on both water miscible and non-miscible flammable liquids and on flammable solid materials. SBB has equipped each train with 1200 liters of FC-602.
The SBB fire-fighting trains consist of three cars: one for fire-fighting, one for providing electricity and materials needed, and one to supply up to 100 people in a hermetically sealed waggon with breathing air for three hours. The trains are serviced by a specially educated railway personnel.
