COPON INTERNAL LINING FOR SOUR GAS AND OIL PIPELINES

The breakdown of carbon steel under attack by Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) under wet conditions is well documented.
As a result, pipeline operators are faced with using alloys instead of carbon steel, which are costly and require the adoption of appropriate welding procedures.
On account of the problems with carbon steel and alloys, there is a strong demand today for Internal Pipe Coatings to resist such sour conditions - sour gas, sour crude and other aggressive environments. Major savings can be achieved by utilising carbon steel pipes internally protected with a specifically designed COPON Internal Lining to meet the specific requirements of sour gas and oil service.
SOUR GAS AND OIL SERVICE
A single application of Copon KSIR88 Internal Lining to provide a dry film thickness of around 200 microns will offer outstanding protection against both sour gas and oil in service and the use of this product offers huge benefits to both pipe coating plants and to pipeline operators.
Copon KSIR88 can be applied at the pipe coating plant and in combination with a COPON Internal Girth Weld Coating will provide a continuous lining, offering a viable long-term barrier against the corrosive effects of both sour oil and sour gas.
This procedure is substantially more economic than costly alloy pipes, more reliable than using inhibitors (that require continuous attention & monitoring to maintain a film on metal surfaces) and offers more comprehensive protection than relying on a corrosion wastage allowance with carbon steel.
Testing and Approval
Copon KSIR88 has been independently tested and did not exhibit Sulphide Stress Corrosion Cracking (SSCC). Under identical test conditions, uncoated coupons showed severe cracking.
