Internal and External Coating of Pipelines
By: Dr S Kut, Phd BSc C Chem FRSC FTSC FIMF FICort. International Direct, E Wood/Copon International Limited.
At: University of Durham, September 9-11, 1975
Abstract:
The characteristics of specialised internal pipe coatings are described, presenting data, supported by case histories, to illustrate the advantages for various service requirements: such as effective protection, decrease in friction and improved throughput. New developments are presented in the field of thin film exterior pipe coatings.

Liquid Internal and External Pipe Coatings for the Oil and Gas Industry - State of the Art
By: Dr S Kut, Phd BSc C Chem FRSC FTSC FIMF FICort. International Direct, E Wood/Copon International Limited
At: Seminar for Corrosion in Oil and Gas Industry. 18-19 February 2003, Tehran, Iran
Abstract:
The paper examines each of the benefits in light of the current requirements and practice for the internal coating of pipes for the gas and oil industries.
The paper summarises the technical and financial cost benefits of internally lining sweet and sour gas and oil pipelines with the relevant suitable Copon pipe coatings.
For sour service, details given of SSCC tests.
External pipe protection referred to, with particular reference to field joint coating.
Presentation based on the more than 40 years worldwide experience with COPON PIPE COATINGS, solvent based epoxies, solvent free COPON Epoxies and Polyurethanes

Liquid Two-Component Internal and External Pipe Coatings
By: Dr S Kut, Phd BSc C Chem FRSC FTSC FIMF FICort. International Direct, E Wood/Copon International Limited.
At: The First Mediterranean Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference, 2
Abstract:
Based on 35 years experience with pipe coatings applied to over 60,000 km of pipelines worldwide, a review is made of the current status of liquid internal and external epoxy pipe coatings - leading on to a new generation of pipe coatings for aggressive, sour and highly acidic conditions. A fast curing liquid external pipe coating is described - linked with low capital plant costs.

Pipe Line Rehabilitation and Maintenance
By: Reimar Ungerechts (BSc Hons) E Wood Group Technical Services Manager
At: 5th International Conference & Exhibition, Bahrain - 19-23 January 2002
Abstract:
Although pipe coaters prefer to choose the most cost effective protection, the list of traditionally used insulation materials is steadily dwindling, as their use has been found to raise health concerns, or it is now realised that the performance offered will not satisfy the rigorous demands of the customer. Of the remaining alternatives that are available, many are not practical to apply or again do not offer the degree of performance required.
This paper highlights the industry trends in selecting an insulation material and why more pipeline protection programs are turning to the use of pure solvent-free polyurethane materials.

Pipeline Protection with Solvent Free Polyurethane
By: Ray Sams: Technical Consultant Copon E Wood Ltd
At: The 3rd Annual International Conference - Advances in Pipeline Rehabilitation and Technology 1999 1-2 November 1999 - Abu Dhabi
Abstract:
The paper traces the history and development of solvent free polyurethane for pipeline protection for over twenty years.
Early developments for weld coating to factory applied fusion bonded epoxy coated pipe lines for British Gas were followed by a general acceptance for a ancillary fittings, valves, random lengths and repairs.
Recent developments into satisfactory adhesion to polyolefin coated pipe lines has extended the use of solvent free polyurethanes to weld protection of two and three layer polyolefin coated pipe lines.
Long term track record exists with tar modified solvent free polyurethane for in the field pipeline rehabilitation.
The paper deals with developments of tar free polyurethane to eliminate health and safety risks and accommodate increasing line temperatures and possibly future encapsulation of aged existing coatings.
Spray equipment and applicator capability is also featured with the conclusion that solvent free polyurethane's versatility and developments offers resolutions to pipe line rehabilitation demands.
The author is a Technical Consultant for Polyurethane Products with the Copon Division of E Wood Ltd. UK
