Business Structure
3M Canada's business units are grouped into three major sectors:
Industrial and Consumer, Health Care, and Transportation,
Graphics and Safety markets. There are a number of business units
or divisions within these sectors, aligned according to products and
markets. While these business units operate with autonomy, they
also benefit from close involvement in the marketing strategies of
the more than 50 divisions within these sectors in the United
States.
All divisions have their own technical, manufacturing, sales and
marketing functions, along with full access to the experience,
knowledge and other valuable assets of the global organization.
This exchange is a two-way street and many new 3M products carry
the stamp of knowledge gained through 3M's global operations,
including 3M Canada.
This internal synergy positions 3M Canada as a vital component in
the North American market. Unique centres of marketing, sales,
administrative and manufacturing excellence within 3M Canada
serve 3M's North American customers.
The majority of our Canadian laboratory efforts
are designed to support existing product lines and to create
new products based on expressed or perceived customer needs.
In addition, longer-range research is carried out in some
niche disciplines, often in partnership with customers and
educational institutions.
