  • 1951 – 3M Canada established
  • 1952 – New London, Ontario plant starts operations
  • 1953 – Irvington Varnish & Insulator Company acquired
  • 1956 – New administration building and 70,000 square feet of manufacturing space added in London
  • 1963 – Manufacturing and warehouse increased by 130,000 square feet
  • 1969 – $1 million administration building to start in London
  • 1970 – Work begins on 3M Centre in Toronto, Ontario
  • 1973 – 3M Centre in Ottawa, Ontario announced
  • 1974 – 3M wins Industrial Environmental Award from Chamber of Commerce
  • 1978 – Van pooling starts for London employees
  • 1979 – Montreal 3M Centre started
  • 1980 – Calgary 3M Centre opened; new London lab under construction
  • 1981 – New plant opened in Perth, Ontario
  • 1982 – New plant opens in Morden, Manitoba; Perth tape plant opened
  • 1985 – Perth plant expansion announced
  • 1989 – Land acquired for new corporate headquarters in London, completed following year.

  • 1995 – 3M announced the spinoff of its data storage and imaging businesses to form a new global company - Imation
  • 1996 – Addition to Perth manufacturing site announced
  • 1996 – 3M Canada earned federal Employment Equity Vision Award
  • 1996 – The 3M Centre, a partnership between 3M Canada, the University of Western Ontario and the London Health Sciences Centre, was opened on the grounds of U.W.O.
  • 1997 – Brockville plant capacity expanding with new product line
  • 1997 – Perth site wins Ontario government 4P award for preventing pollution at the source
  • 1997 – 3M Science in Your World Gallery opened at the London Regional Children's Museum
  • 1997 – 3M became the title sponsor of the 3M NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program)
  • 1998 – Acquired former Racal Manufacturing operations in Brockville
  • 1998 – A partnership was signed between 3M Canada, the RCMP and the Coaching Association of Canada
  • 1999 – The first of the RCMP officers' coaching awards were presented at the Coaching Canada Awards
  • 1999 – The 3M Women’s Wellness Centre opens as part of The London Health Sciences Centre.
  • 1999 – The 3M Osteoporosis Centre at the Monsignor Roney Centre of the St. Joseph's Health Sciences Centre opens.
  • 2000 – A new duct tape line is established at the London plant to manufacture Scotch™ Duct Tape for the North American market.
  • 2000 – A partnership is announced between 3M Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation to honour coaches with the Ontario Community 3M Coach of the Year Award.
  • 2000 – For the first time 3M Canada hits over $1 Billion in sales.
  • 2000 – A Coaching Partnership, to promote grassroots coaching, was announced between 3M Canada and the Ontario government
  • 2001 – 3M Canada celebrates its 50th anniversary with activities and celebrations at branches across the country.
  • 2001 – 3M Canada is a major sponsor of the 2001 Canada Summer Games. The focus of 3M’s commitment to the games is on the 6000 volunteers necessary to make the games a success.
  • 2001 – 3M sponsors the Red Green movie, “Duct Tape Forever”. The popular television personality Red Green is also a spokesperson for Scotch™ Duct tape.
  • 2001 – A partnership is announced between 3M Canada and the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency of the Department of National Defense to honour coaches within the armed forces.
  • 2001 – A donation from 3M Canada to the Parkwood Hospital Foundation in London allows members of the chronic wound and skin care team to increase and share research.
  • 2001 – An announcement is made that the 3M Havelock Plant, where roofing granules are produced, will close in 2002
