History of 3M Hartford City
3M began operations in Hartford City in 1955 when it purchased the Hartford City Paper Company. 3M needed a paper mill capable of producing a special paper required for a new copying process. Two years later, a new 163,000 square foot manufacturing plant was opened on 36 acres adjacent to the paper mill. The paper and copier products are no longer a part of our portfolio in Hartford City. In fact, this site has reinvented itself many times in its rich history within 3M as many product lines experienced prosperity and subsequent changes in customer demand.
Today, the 3M Hartford City plant is a 235,000 square foot facility dedicated to the manufacture of specialty industrial tapes. We have a variety of coating and converting processes within our factory dedicated to making rolls of tapes. We have now celebrated 60 years of having operations in Blackford County, IN. Currently within 3M, we are part of the Industrial Business Group.
