3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 2158 is a multi-purpose, two-part epoxy adhesive that offers rigid bonds and high shear strength. This epoxy adhesive provides a durable bond that can be applied to a wide variety of metals, wood, concrete, and some plastics.

    High-Strength, Rigid Bond
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive 2158 is a rigid, multi-purpose, two-part high strength adhesive that chemically cures at room temperature. This equal mix ratio (1:1) epoxy has a 2 hour work life, allowing time for adjustments and positioning of substrates and parts. It reaches handling strength in approximately 10 hours and fully cures in 7 days. With a relatively high viscosity this epoxy dispenses easily to ensure a controlled, precise and accurate application that won't migrate. Once cured this adhesive provides a rigid bond with high shear strength to deliver better dead load holding. This product can be used in a wide range of industries including: general industrial, metalworking, construction, military, transportation and aerospace.

    Recommended Applications
    • General bonding, gluing, joining and attaching
    What are Epoxy Adhesives?
Epoxy adhesives are part of the class of adhesives called "structural adhesives," which also includes polyurethane, acrylic, cyanoacrylate, and others. Two part structural adhesives are formulated as liquid reactive polymers that undergo a reaction when mixed, and then cure to form a solid plastic material. Once the two parts are mixed in their specified ratio, they begin the curing process and offer a limited working time where the adhesive can be applied and the two surfaces positioned as required. This "work life" lasts anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours or longer. This class of structural adhesives provides high shear and peel strengths, depending on the formula and better heat and chemical resistance than other common adhesives. Epoxies that are heat cured are more heat and chemical resistant than those that cure at room temperature. Epoxy adhesives are widely used in building and home construction, aircraft and automobile manufacture, bicycle, boat, golf clubs, ski, and snowboard assembly and a host of home use and other applications; virtually anywhere high-strength bonds are needed along with resistance to environmental conditions. These adhesives are popular for their ease of use, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. Formulations can be created to make epoxies that are flexible or rigid, transparent or opaque, quick setting or slow setting. The versatility with which epoxy adhesives can be formulated helps meet almost any requirement for bonding wood, metal, glass, stone, and various plastics.

Rigid epoxy adhesives have higher tensile strength for greater long-term holding power. Mostly used for rigid substrates (metal) with high static loads. Industrial uses for epoxies range widely and include coatings, adhesives, and composite materials like carbon fiber and glass-reinforced plastic. They are the preferred choice for their ability to flow and conform to the work area, strong adhesion, chemical and heat resistance, and exceptional mechanical and electrical insulating properties.
